Freestore Foodbank

Text Box: UASI is pleased to announce the first organization we will be supporting through the 25 Reasons to Give Campaign is The Freestore Foodbank (www.freestorefoodbank.org).  The mission of the Freestore Foodbank is to provide food and services, create stability and further self-reliance for people in crisis.  We will be supporting the Freestore Foodbank and other local foodbanks nationally by participating in the Stamp Out Hunger campaign on May 9th and the Hunger Walk 5k Walk/Run (Cincinnati only) on Monday, May 25th.
Text Box: Suggestions for the 25 Reasons to Give campaign can be submitted to Holly Saylor through May 31, 2009.
Text Box: On Saturday, May 9, Campbell Soup Company will join forces with the National Association of Letter Carriers to provide assistance to the one in eight Americans who struggle with hunger.  The Stamp Out Hunger effort is the nation's largest single-day food drive, collecting a record total of more than 73.1 million pounds of food nationally.  To help Stamp Out Hunger this year, simply leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable foods, like canned soup, canned vegetables, pasta, rice or cereal, next to your mailbox prior to your mail delivery on May 9.  The nation’s 230,000 letter carriers will be collecting donations from homes across the country, and the FreestoreFoodbank and other local foodbanks nationally will receive your donations!

Now in its sixth year The Hunger Walk is a 5K Run/Walk is produced by the FreestoreFoodbank, starting and ending in one of Cincinnati Park's gems, Lytle Park, to benefit our network of over 400 community partners: food pantries, soup kitchens, and social service agencies. In 2008 The Hunger Walk & 5k grew to become the fifth largest 5k in the City of Cincinnati attracting over 2500 participants.  Every dollar raised goes directly to feeding needy people in your neighborhood, our community and in the twenty counties served by the FreestoreFoodbank’s 400 plus non-profit community partners. Please contact Sherri Martin if you will be participating in the walk for additional information.
